“Government acts to curb younger smokers”-(Pg A1 & A4)

Q1:

What are some measures by the government to curb smoking?

A1:

The government have the penalties of a suspense of license for up to six months and the person who sold tobacco product will have a fine of $10,000. The other measure is places that sell health and youth-centric products such as chinese medicine halls and game arcade will be barred from selling tobacco products whish will shrink the number of tobacco retailers from the more than 5,000 now. Cigarillos and mini cigars will have to be sold in packs of 20 instead of in 10 to make them expensive for students to buy. labelling on tobacco products such as "light", "mild","low-tar" and "ultra light" will be banned due to its misleadingGovernment has also have fined for underaged smokers from $30-$100.

Q2:

How successful do you think these measures would be?
Support your answer with reasons.

A2:

I think that these measures will not be successful as expected. This is because the student now can afford the prices of the cigarettes so even how the prices increased, the student will still continued to buy it. The underaged smokers will continue to buy cigarettes even with the strict rules as they think that these measures are not so serious. We do not know the number of underaged smokers so it is very hard for the government to track them. This problem will not come to an end unless parents themselve and school will teach their children or students about the disadvantage of smoking from young. Therefore, i think that these measures will not be successful.

Drink-and-Eat MRT Riders on the rise-“Straits Times IN” Section (pg 10)

Q2:
How do you feel about MRT commuters eating and drinking blatantly on the train?

A2:
I felt that the MRT commuters eating and drinking blatantly on the train are very inconsiderate as they do not think of the other passenger.Eating and drinking blatanly on the train is an offence so they should not do it. Their food may have smells and this smell will affect the other passenger as some smell make people want to vomit when they smelled it. There was once when i saw a passenger eating a packet of noodles and a few noodles were dropped on the floor and the seat. These caused the other passenger not to sit on the seat and caused the train to be very dirty. I hope that MRT commuters eating and drinking blatantly on the trainwill stop this kind of action and think of the other passenger on the train.
